S. W. Gunapala: The oldest soldier who lived in the country passed away

 


He died at his home in Ahungalla, Ambalangoda at the age of 102, the same century he served in the 2nd Royal Artillery Regiment of the Royal British Army before 1948 under Enlistment No. 410 of the Royal British Army.

He served in the Army during the outbreak of World War 11 from 1939-1945, when the British Army awarded the late Gunner a commendation / service. His remains are buried at Dahamatissa Mawatha, Ahungalla.

In October last year, he celebrated his 102nd birthday with family.
