Traders are demanding an increase in the prices of all essential commodities, said Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena.
The Minister made this revelation while answering questions posed by journalists after a visit to Lanka Sathosa yesterday (17).
“We have received requests to increase the prices of all commodities. The manufacturing process and supply chain around the world have been disrupted. This is the reason for the request for a price increase. Minister Gunawardena said.
He pointed out that shipping costs have skyrocketed, adding that container fees have also increased by 300%.
“The whole world is facing a food crisis. As a government, we have reduced the prices of any possible product after consultation with the manufacturers.
