India lends US $ 100 million for solar projects in Sri Lanka

According to the National Policy Framework, steps have been taken to increase the contribution of renewable energy sources to the national grid by increasing solar power generation.

The government's main plan is to generate solar energy with the contribution of government-owned buildings, places of worship and houses for low-income families. The project is expected to provide financial benefits to low income families and reduce the cost incurred by government agencies for electricity. Steps will also be taken to facilitate the storage of solar energy in batteries for low-income families who do not have access to the national grid. The project also includes the generation of electricity by installing floating solar panels as a solution to the land shortage. Under the first phase, it is planned to generate electricity for the Parliament centered on Diyawanna as a pilot project.

The Government of India, a major partner in Sri Lanka for this project, has entered into a Bilateral Loan Agreement through the Export-Import Bank of India for a loan of US $ 100 million.

Agreement on Credit Line signed between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Export-Import Bank of India Attygal and Indian High Commissioner Gopal Bagle exchanged views.

Foreign Secretary Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy Wasantha Perera and officials from the Indian High Commission and the Ministry of Finance were also present.
