US President names new US Ambassador to Sri Lanka


US President Joe Biden has named Julie Jeun Chun as the new US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, the White House reports.

Chung Jr. is a professional member of the Foreign Service and the Ministerial-Advisory Class and is also the Acting Assistant Secretary of the Western Hemisphere Bureau of the U.S. State Department.

She previously served as Director of the Department of Japan's Office, and served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and as Economic Adviser at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.

Previously, Chung served as the Transitional Coordinator at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. She has served at the U.S. Embassies in Colombia, Vietnam and Japan, and at the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, China.

She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Secretary's Honorary Award. Chung speaks Korean and Japanese.
